Silk Road Corridor : Connecting Central Asia to the World
Cross-border payments, Islamic finance, and the architecture to bring Central Asia's culture to the globe
The Silk Road was never a single road, it was a network of routes that shifted with politics, conflict, and climate, rerouting around disruptions for centuries. The same logic is driving Central Asia's financial architecture today.
Uzbekistan receives up to 14% of GDP, nearly US$19 billion, in annual remittances, all flowing through corridors that remain fragmented, expensive, and opaque. It shares at least five economic corridors with neighbouring countries and sits at the geographic centre of an Islamic finance opportunity that was, until recently, almost entirely unserved by modern digital infrastructure.
In March 2026, President Mirziyoyev signed Uzbekistan's Islamic Finance Law, opening Sharia-compliant banking nationwide for the first time. It creates a direct connection to a USD 6.3 billion projected Islamic finance corridor spanning Central Asia, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Africa, and it comes at a moment when pressure on regional trade routes is pushing countries to diversify and find alternative financial intermediaries.
Amidst regional geopolitical disruptions straining key trade routes, the case for building that infrastructure is structural, and immediate.
